Back Pain

Many of our patients initially consult with us because they are suffering from low back pain and related problems. These pains can be as a result of recent injuries or longstanding problems. Many patients also have pains, pins and needles or numbness radiating into the groins or down the legs.

Your chiropractor will check to see if you have any of these conditions of the spine.

Symptoms & Causes

Back pain can be felt in one or both sides of the back, sometimes between the shoulder blades or from waist level and into the buttocks and down the front or backs of the legs. It can be a sharp or dull pain, and can spread into the legs, sometimes into the feet.

If the pain does not go after a few days, or starts to get worse, it is certainly worth seeking our advice. Early treatment can help you get better much faster.

Lower back pain is often caused by problems within the spinal joints and soft tissues. We are able to treat these problems using gentle, precise adjustments (highly specialised chiropractic manipulation) techniques.

Back pain can be brought on and affected by many things including:

  • Slouching at your desk

  • Sudden jarring during sport

  • Lifting incorrectly

  • Being overweight

  • Not walking and being active enough

  • Wearing high heels

  • Smoking

  • Following incorrect advice from someone wrongly 'diagnosing' the cause of the pain.

Chiropractic Care for Back Pain

We specialise in properly assessing, diagnosing and managing conditions of the spine and are highly trained in finding the exact causes of the pain.

We will conduct a thprough assessment, taking details about your condition, current health and medical history, before performing a physical examination. Sometimes it may be necessary to refer you for other tests, such as MRI scans.

It is important for us to gather as much information about your back pain as possible so that the most precise diagnosis can be made. Diagnosis of symptoms can be very complex and as such, it is important to mention every symptom to us even if you think they might not be linked or relevant.

Once we have made a diagnosis, we will explain what is wrong; what the options are, and whether chiropractic treatment is likely to be of benefit.  You will have time to ask any questions so that you can make an informed decision regarding the recommended treatment.
