Neck Pain

Neck pain can be very uncomfortable as the tissues and structures of the neck are very susceptible to pain. It can be felt in one or both sides of the neck or in the base of the skull and into the shoulders. It can be  a sharp or dull pain, and can often spread down the arm as far as the hand and fingers.

Symptoms & Causes

Neck pain can slowly becomes more and more restricted and painful, or it can appear as an agonising problem that suddenly starts as incredibly severe pain in the neck or at the base of the neck with almost complete restriction of all neck movement.

Chiropractic Care for Neck Pain

Neck pain can be a chronic problem of many years duration or acute as a sudden onset. If the pain does not go after a few days, or starts to  get worse, it is well worth seeking professional advice. Clinical trials around the world have proven that chiropractic treatment can be effective for both acute and chronic neck pain.

Whiplash

This very common condition which appears to be on the increase as we have more and more enquiries about whiplash injuries each year.

Symptoms & Causes

Whiplash is injury to the neck muscles caused by a rapid forwards and backwards movement that often occurs in car accidents.

Chiropractic Care for Whiplash

Clinical evidence has shown that appropriate treatment can give excellent results in acute and chronic neck pain so it is not surprising that many insurance companies, surgeons and solicitors are now referring increasing numbers of patients with neck pains that have still not responded after months of simple physiotherapy directly to us for expert analysis and advice.

When patients with neck problems and associated pains consult a chiropractor at our clinics they have the underlying problem fully explained to them and should expect that with our gentle, precise treatment techniques, good results should be seen within a relatively short time - or treatment would be discontinued.

Other Causes of Neck Pain

Disc Prolapses

Every day we see many acute and chronic, longstanding disc problems. Although there are usually 23 discs in the spine (it does vary!), the lower back and neck discs are the common ones to fail.

Discs can tear; bulge; protrude; or prolapse with the lesion being of many shapes and sizes and located in a variety of directions. Disc problems can also occur in children as well as adults.

Chiropractic can produce excellent results for treating these very painful conditions. We treat more disc problems every year than any other profession. Please also see facet pain for further information.

Torticollis

This is a very severe restriction of neck movement with agonising pain. Patients often comment “I can’t even lift my head off the pillow” and “I can’t believe how painful it is”. It is common in children over the age of eight and at any age up to 65 year-olds, after which it becomes less common.

We usually see about four cases of torticollis in our clinic per week. We find chiropractic treatment works particularly well when combined with appropriate prescribed medication. Please telephone for advice.

Scott had this condition himself in January 2010 proving that no-one is exempt and has made him incredibly sympathetic to his patients when they consult him with the same problem! He had brilliant treatment from his colleagues in-house and rumour has it that he was an excellent patient who never complained.
